Corona

Your plan, prepared by a Corona law firm

Montanez Yu’s office is at 700 E. Grand Blvd. in Corona. We prepare living trusts, wills, powers of attorney, and health care directives for Corona families, and we handle the consultation and planning meetings remotely, so you can work with us from home.

For most Corona families, the house is the reason to plan. A home worth about $750,000, close to a typical Corona home value, would generate about $36,000 in statutory attorney and executor fees if it passed through probate, figured on the full value before the mortgage is subtracted.

Probate for Corona residents is usually heard at the Riverside Historic Courthouse in downtown Riverside, and a typical case takes 9 to 18 months. A properly funded living trust lets the person you choose step in without a court case.

Every plan is designed and drafted by a Montanez Yu attorney, and we explain each document in plain English before you sign.

Common questions

Corona estate planning questions

What does a plan cost?

Our flat fee for a complete plan starts at $2,500 for an individual and $3,000 for a married couple, quoted in writing before any work begins. The consultation is free. See what the flat fee covers.

Do I have to come to the office?

No. We handle the consultation and planning meetings remotely, so you can work with us from home. Our Corona office is here when you need it.

Will my family owe estate tax?

California has no estate or inheritance tax, and the federal estate tax reaches only very large estates. For most Corona families, the costs a plan avoids are probate fees and delay, not taxes.

Will my children keep my property tax base?

Only in limited cases. Under Proposition 19, a child keeps a parent’s property tax base on the family home only if the child moves in as their primary residence within a year, and only up to a value limit. Other property is reassessed.

What if our home still has a mortgage?

You can still put it in your trust. Lenders generally cannot call the loan because of a transfer to your own living trust, and our guide on moving a mortgaged home into a trust explains the steps.

Do you speak Spanish?

Yes. Se habla español. Tell us when you call and we will arrange it.
